— Zerotier New Central version Tutorial —

    — Above you have two videos that show exactly what you need to do to add your devices to the ZeroTier network, and also how to send video and telemetry using ZeroTier. Watch everything very carefully, because if you follow those steps exactly, everything will work perfectly.

    — !!! Good to know !!! – I recommend TAILSCALE, not ZEROTIER !!! But I’m leaving all the information here for those who prefer ZEROTIER. For the TAILSCALE tutorial, go to the website, in the Deep Doc tab, under the Tailscale Set Up section.

  • Zerotier Information

    — Just like in the case of TAILSCALE,  ZEROTIER can create two types of connections: a DIRECT connection and a RELAY connection. A DIRECT connection is always preferable, but unfortunately we don’t get to choose it—your network/operator and NAT conditions determine whether it’s possible. ZEROTIER will try to negotiate the safest and fastest connection, but it doesn’t depend only on Tailscale.

    — If a DIRECT connection is established, the latency between devices is extremely low, around 20–30 ms, which is excellent. Unfortunately, you won’t always get a DIRECT connection, and then you may fall back to a RELAY connection, which is slower but still good enough for 4G LTE, where you can expect average latencies around 200 ms, typically in the 100–350 ms range.

    — For people who do racing, this might not be ideal, but for those who want long range and don’t mind receiving video with about a quarter of a second of latency, it’s definitely fine. In the end, what matters is that you always stay in contact with your drone and receive video and telemetry continuously, regardless of distance—and 250 ms is nothing.
